Firey BBQ Ribs & Bloody Rice

Sorry, no good Halloween posts here, move along. In case your still reading, the ribs were pretty good, but I think I should have gone with a burrito or a couple tacos today. After all it's almost Dia De Los Muertos.

Maru Ichi Fix

Like I mentioned before, Maru Ichi is freakin' great. Again, I was not let down by Combo A with Kuro. The rest of the meal was good too. Pay no attention to the small red circle at the top of the photo. I am not sure how that got there. Mmm.

Happy Diwali!

Had some great Indian food today. Mmmm. The Samosas were pretty damn good. Although, they could have used less potato and more peas. The plumb sauce really makes them something special. The Chicken Tikka Masala was really good too. I had a bit of the Aloo Bagan and then realized that there was eggplant in it when I sat down. I ate what I could of that, but stopped short of actually eating the eggplant. Eggplant, along with mushrooms, are probably the worst foods on the planets. <- Yes, any of them.

Please note the potato fork on the left hand side of the photo. Thank you lord. :P

Everything Else < Pumpkin Ice Cream < Jesus

Eating the Pumpkin ice cream in Cafe Moma is a spiritual experience. One that I have no problem trekking across the street to get. I mean, I am pretty sure the good lord is rubbing my belly after each bite. Lord, thank you for that. And lord, thank you for my Prime Rib and the good cooks that made my lunch today. Well done.

Regarding my utensils: they were out of potato forks today, so I had to use a metal one. Lord, can you fix that for tomorrows lunch? I promise I wont ask for anything else, ever.

Magical Wings

Its been a while since I went to American Table. Not sure why either. They are always freakin' awesome. I think at this point I would place them in my top three cafes. The wings today were pretty amazing. The turkey pasta dish too.

Free Cereal?

It was a WFH day. I got the cereal from my pantry, the milk and berries from the fridge, and the bananna from the counter. I guess I paid for all of this. Sorry.

Custom Made Just for Me

So today I waited in the longest line I have ever waited in for lunch. I usually just skip what ever has the longest line. There is always something good in a much shorter line. Well, today I thought I'd see what all the fuss was about and give the long line a try. In case you couldn't tell from the photo, I waited for a custom bowl of pasta. The way this worked was you wait in line for a while, order your toppings, and then they cook it up right there in front of you (the pasta dish, not crack). I have to admit, it was quite good and well worth the long wait. Hmm, maybe it was crack. Anyway, here are the toppings I ordered: garlic, garlic sausage, zucchini, and peppers all topped with a marinara sauce. Mmmmm. The garlic bread was good too. Mmmm. Garlic.

Deep Fired Chicken Thing

Had some pretty awesome Orange-Creme soda with lunch today. The best part was the deep fried chicken thing though. It had this sauce that reminded me of this Plumb sauce my favorite Indian restaurant makes. I need to go there very soon and you should too.

This is America!

After hearing a comment from Latthew Mewis today, I had a momentary internal struggle over whether or not it was OK to mix foods from different cafes on one plate. I quickly came to the conclusion that this was not only OK, but that it would be considered down right un-American to do anything else. Besides, I'll be damned if I let any one cafe dictate how many cafes I go to in one day. I mean, how else am I supposed to try out a highly regarded cafe and consume some great frozen yogurt in a single meal? It's just not possible.

Now, I know what you are thinking and yes, that is bacon on that sandwich. And yes, the sandwich was freakin' awesome. The mashers and salad were so so. Finally, I would love to tell you how I finished everything up with the Red Mango (warning: annoying all flash website) yogurt, but the truth is, I didn't. I actually ate that first and saved the bacon sandwich for last. That's just how I roll.

Desk Lunch Friday

Some pretty sweet taquitos. Get this: I tried to get a real fork today, you know, to try to make a difference and what not, and they were out of clean ones. Sorry earth. Better luck next time.

Vote For Burrito

Surprise! I had a burrito today! Sorry about the lack of presentation in the photo. I feel that if you seen one Carne Asada Supremo burrito from Andale, you've seen them all.  I did take a slightly different route in the beverage department today. Instead of a frosty glass of grape juice, I washed it down with a frosty glass of milk and a little civic responsibility.

50% Special

I find that when I go to pic, I load my plate mostly at the beginning of the line (salad side) and at the end of the line. The end of the line is where they keep the "Specials". Today's special was Chicken Katsu (located between 9 and 12 o'clock on my plate) and Okonomiyaki (located at 2 o'clock). Holy crap those are good. I can see why they make it to the "Special" section of the lunch line. The Chicken Katsu is breaded and deep fried and topped with a crazy good sauce called Tonkatsu Sauce. I can't even tell you what the Okonomiyaki is made out of, but I suspect it's made from a little slice of heaven. I wanted to go back and get more, but I don't think going back and taking the entire tray of Okonomiyaki would have been very nice. Next time I'll be sure to grab a couple pieces. Oh, the stuff covering the bottom half of my plate are the standard vegies and salad, not too special.

Chinese Style Noodle Soup

Ingredients for a delicious soup: broccoli, grilled beef, vegetable broth, couple (OK like 4 or 5) pork wontons, fresh Shanghai noodles, red and green chilies, bean sprouts, and cilantro. Please note the toothpicks. You can find them between the soup and milk. Those are very important for a meal with cilantro, especially for a guy with big teeth. Not sure why I grabbed the fork and knife - force of habbit I guess.

A Standard Monday

Today was a pretty standard day as far as lunch goes. Nothing flashy or exotic going on, but good none the less. At Charlie's you'll always find something good and familiar. Some of the other cafes can get carried away sometimes with far out types of food that you have never seen before. Not Charlies though. Actually, sometimes they have something crazy, but they always have your basic comfort foods. You know the kind that requires almost no thought as to whether or not you'll like it. I would consider them to be the PB&J of the Google cafes.

Orange Not So Dirty

Ok, so I really hate mushrooms. I think they are one of the worst things a person could eat. I can only describe the flavor of mushrooms as dirty. Just consider what they grow in for a second would ya? The only mushrooms I ever liked were some I had while I was in Hyderabad, India. They were stuffed with cheese, breaded, and deepfried (that makes everything taste good). Today, I saw some mushrooms that looked quite similar to the deepfried morsels I had in Hyderabad. These ones tasted OK (they were missing cheese). I guess I still don't like them very much. They had an orange sauce that I know was designed to cover the taste of dirt. They couldn't fool me though.

As far as the rest of the meal, the mixed vegies were pretty damn good, so was the chicken. I don't usually drink soda, but I wanted to try the Royal Pepper soda (we say soda on the west coast, not pop) with agave syrup. It wasn't bad, but I don't need to have another glass. Finally, I have to saw that the best part of the whole meal were the plumbs. Perfect.

Happy Friday everyone.

A Student's Lunch

This is my typical Thursday lunchtime meal. I have class in the afternoon, so I just grab a buritto from Andale and go. Today, I am washing it down with a frozen mug of watered down grape juice (60% Welches and 40% water).

In other news, we should hopefully start seeing some new Google Maps imagery soon. The first image of the GeoEye-1 has been released. Apparently, Google will be able to purchase image data down to the absurd resolution of 50cm! That's about 1 ft 8 inches for my metrically challenged readers. As a point of reference, thats only slightly higher then my camera was when I took a picture of that delicious buritto you see above. Hey Nokia, stick that in your Navteq pipe and smoke it!

Not So Free...

... but worth every penny. You will likely see this beauty make an appearance here on a regular basis. Just look at it, simply amazing! You can find Kuro Ramen (combo A pictured above) at Maru Ichi on Castro St. in downtown Mountain View. Don't waste your time with another flavor Ramen, seriously don't do it.

For those of you daring enough to give it a try, I feel I must offer a warning: you will become addicted. You may not feel it at first, but you will. A week or so after your first taste you will find your mind drifting, thinking about Kuro. As soon as you cave to the temptation your life is over. Soon you will find yourself doing whatever it takes to get some of that garlicy sweetness into your veins. Your family and friends wont know who you are anymore and you'll have a hard time keeping a job or continue being effective in your current job. You've been warned.

Also, for those of you following along, I think that it is important to point out that Maru Ichi is located in California, the best state. I belive that I can rest my case now.

Good stuff. You know what else is good? California and the new Mega Man.

Sesame Crusted Ahi is Freakin Good!

Yup, I opted for the disposable fork and knife. Call me what you will.

Oh and FYI: California is the best state. Ever.
